Ace the Texas A&M Math Placement Exam (MPE)

Don’t let a single test delay your degree. Get the score you need for Calculus I.

At Texas A&M, your journey into Engineering, Science, or Business starts with the Math Placement Exam. A low score doesn't just mean "more math"—it can mean a delayed graduation date and extra tuition costs for prerequisite classes.

I help Aggies-to-be master the MPE so they can hit the ground running in College Station.

Why the MPE Matters

The MPE is a proctored, 90-minute exam covering Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Functions.

  • A score of 22+ is typically required to enroll in MATH 151 (Engineering Calculus I).

  • A score of 15-21 places you in Pre-Calculus.

  • Anything lower may require developmental math.

Helpful Tips for Success:

  • No Calculators: Remember, the MPE is strictly "no calculator." If you’ve been relying on your TI-84 in high school, we need to sharpen your hand-calculation skills.

  • The Second Attempt: You have limited attempts to take the MPE. Don't waste your first try "just to see what it's like." Go in prepared.

  • Focus on Trig: Many students fail to hit the 22-point mark because they are rusty on Trigonometry. It is often the "deciding factor" on the exam.
